1130

Record Month:

Ended up May with 1130 miles… first time over 1000 and I put in an extra 100+ just for fun. If I keep blowing away my goals by 10-20% I'm going to have a helluva time topping 'em next season!

At 3846 YTD, I'll hit the 4000 mark somewhere on the Strawberry route on Sunday, if not sooner.

1st Ride!

Ride got me: thirsty
Ride-o-meter: 8
Post Subtitle: sweet!

Technically the second ride, but the first group ride on the Flyte just happened to be a Ramble. Since I had a nice long warm up to test out the bike and thought I had it dialed in fairly well (close enough for a 40 mile ride, anyway), I headed out with the cows. 6 started out and we were all wearing the MadCow jersey. That's a pretty sweet image, 6 of us in an eschelon down Rudy. Hell, you'd think we actually knew how to ride bikes or something.

Take Flyte!

Ride got me: ecstatic
Ride-o-meter: 10
Post Subtitle: like Christmas morning

Take Flyte!Well, at long last, after 4 delays and 5 delivery date changes, the Flyte was ready today. Went down to the Springboro shop and picked her up this afternoon. All I can say is WOW. The bike is gorgeous. The red/gray/black Flyte graphics really matches well with the red/black FSA stem/handlebars, the carbon Campy components and an upgraded Reynolds Ouzo Pro fork. The Ksyrium Elite wheels are pretty nice, but a little too 'bling' for me. I may switch 'em out with my Campy Zondas. Add in the matching Mad Cow Ramble jersey and it's almost like a team issue bike. Sweet! Now if I could just get someone better looking to ride it! 8)

Night Ride!

Ride got me: awake
Ride-o-meter: 9
Post Subtitle: conversational

Egg 'n Dobo Night RideWhat a great way to beat the heat. Thinking that I was going down south to pick up the new bike, I drove to work today. OOPS! One more day of waiting, as the BB that was ordered/delivered wrong just got there late this afternoon.

1st day of August?

Ride got me: dripping
Ride-o-meter: 8
Post Subtitle: steamy

Despite the timestamp, today was like August. For a lot of people, it was more like the 3rd day of August, but since I took the weekend off, this was my first exposure to the recent warm-up.

No-Chain Day #2

Ride got me: hungry

More of the same today. Absolutely no agenda, no place to be, nothing I have to do.

  • Long grass? "Who cares!"
  • Indy 500 Party? Stayed home.
  • Bike ride invite? Nope!
  • Laundry? Housecleaning? You're kidding, right?

No-Chain Day #1

For the un-aware, "no-chain day" is a reference to a ride that even though you are flying it seems like turning your crank requires no effort whatsoever. It comes from one of Lance's books (can't remember which of the two). Craig makes frequent references to no-chain days in his blog and while riding. I think a lot of days he's full of shit, he works hard and he hurts, he's just a better poker player than most. However, on sheer talent and dedication to his riding, I'm sure he's capable of more no-chain days than most.

1000 -1

So I already explained 999 for May, but here's the latest on milestones.

  • Today's ride put me just over 200 for the week (3700 YTD)
  • I've been over 200 the last 4 weeks, and 8 of the last 9.
(the 9th week was 182, close enough)
  • Over those 9 weeks I'm averaging 240+.
  • If I were to do that all year, I'd end up with over 12,500 miles.

Holy shit, that's Craaaaaiiiiiiiiggggg Caaaaaaarrrrooooolll territory! Good thing I have no desire to ride a trainer that much in the colder months!

“Missed it by a mile!”

Ride-o-meter: 6

Never have those words been so true! I just have to laugh my ass off. I got home tonight after cutting the route short and generally just feeling like crap. I logged my miles for the day, thinking I had got my 1000 month.

NOT!

999.03. I literally missed it by a mile! If I wasn't so damned tired I'd go out and ride up the street a few blocks just to prove a point. But I think this way is more fun. I have NO plans to ride until Monday night, so it can just sit there at 999 all weekend. HILARIOUS! Today I have mixed emotions about the ride. I actually quit the same ride twice in one day today. "How", you ask? Well, let me tell you. Read more on “Missed it by a mile!”…

Short recovery day.

Ride-o-meter: 8

More of a quick commute than anything. 12 miles out and back. I think I only averaged 14 mph going south! Wind was a bitch. Coming back was fun though. Getting closer to the 1000 mark for the month. Will hit it Friday. Bike is delayed yet again. Supposedly Tuesday. I am getting seriously bummed. I have all the patience of a 2 year old.

Red Route Rules!

Ride-o-meter: 8

Something new today, and what a great day it was. We rode the newly designed Red Route for the first time. We changed it around a bit to take advantage of some new paving, get rid of a real bad road, and just to make it different. Ironically, it adds in some sections of the older Red from when we used to start/finish at Walnut Grove. Read more on Red Route Rules!…
