Record September

With CFC (blogs ad nauseum to follow at some point when I rest & recover a bit more) in the books, I topped my record for monthly miles at 1256. That’s 42 miles per day, on average. I actually took 7 days off, which is an average of 53 mile per day ridden.

389 for the final week is the best since the 404 I posted during the first week of June when I did the double.

CFC Day 2

Morning came too soon thanks to the usual gym floor mass sleepover social behaviours. 2 or 3 people get up way too early and make noise. This gets 5-10 people up and making noise. Pretty soon everybody’s up and making noise. I have learned to expect this – if I didn’t want to put up with it, there are hotel rooms.

This particular morning was funny because 90% of the people were up, getting ready to ride, and packing their gear in the dark, since nobody bothered to turn on the lights.

CFC Day 1

This year’s CFC was nearly canceled, then on, then canceled completely, then nearly on, then nearly canceled, then finally 2 weeks ago, it was on. I had been monitoring the COP website every day and as soon as they announced it would go forward, I registered. I really enjoyed (in hindsight, if not during) the ride last year and wanted to do it again, especially with improved climbing abilities.

The forecast for the weekend was nearly ideal. Sunny skies, light winds and favorable direction, dry w/ no humidity, cool temps. The only downside was almost too cool temps. The mornings started out in the low to mid-40s, which meant shedding and carrying layers. Still, that’s a fair price to pay for otherwise excellent conditions.

Uphill Battle

I’m going to have real motivation today and tomorrow as I climb hill after hill after hill…

I can simply tell myself this is waaaaaaaaaay less of an uphill battle than the pipe dream that is the Tour of America!

Cycling News is always a couple days behind VeloNews but with more detail and here is part of an article with the numerous objections and criticisms of the Tour of America proposal. Read more on Uphill Battle…

Hincapie headlines T-Mobile additions

Here’s another stray thought from the world of pro cycling…

I figure I have two choices – learn to:

A) Love T-Mobile, or…
B) Hate George Hincapie

WeekEnded

Thankfully this week is over. I’ve been working more an more hours every week and keep getting behinder and behinder.

Today’s commute was a carbon copy of yesterday, except dryer and stronger NW winds.

Dobo Called It… Wrong?

Well, I’m not planning on dining on handlebar tape just yet, but the press conference, and the idea, for a coast-to-coast Tour of America was for real.

When in Amish Country…

I can’t believe I forgot about this.

Not 2 miles down the road, before I even hit the first climb on the Knox County Challenge, what did I see coming towards me, silhouetted in the morning sun?

40 Degree Swing

Saturday looks to be interesting. Forecast for Lancaster has the 8am starting temp at near 40 and the afternoon high in Marietta is near 80. Guess I’ll be stuffing my jersey pockets full of shed(ded) layers during the day.

Sunday will likely be very much the same. Gotta love fall!

Almost Easy

Today was another super light ride to work and back. It would have been easy except for carrying about 15 pounds of canned goods in a duffel bag on my back. That’s a little painful on the shoulder after a half hour.

The fun part is when I stood up to sprint through a yellow light before it turned red, only to quickly be reminded that standing up and sprinting with a duffel bag doesn’t work. So… it was just a little bit red when I went through it.
