New Poll Feature

I’ve just found an interesting little plugin that can quickly add a poll inside a blog entry.

This is basically a first attempt just to see how it works, if it works, and whether it’s worth keeping or not.

I didn’t like the sidebar usage of the other poll, because of the narrow width, especially on some of the themes.

Great Day to Travel

Sometimes ya just get bad luck. We’ll see what happens overnight, but starting out to Iowa tomorrow morning looks to be a risky and miserable proposition. Snow, ice, snow, sleet, snow, rain, freezing rain, snow, wind. You name it, it’s in the mix. The heaviest snow is supposed to be in Indy, just about the time we need to be driving through there.

Nice.

Body Language

It’s amazing sometimes what your body will tell you if you listen to it.

I woke up twice this morning. The first time doesn’t really count, since it was actually when Cindy woke up to go to work, and I hadn’t done much but toss and turn. My body at that point was pretty much just whining. Every part of it. Not worth repeating.

The second time was surprisingly positive. My nose reported, right from the second I awoke, that it could breathe, fairly well even. That was the first time in a while, and not at all what I expected. My throat reported nothing. No pain. Also a good sign. Also, what little morning cough I had was dry. The report is just getting better.

An Apple a Day

I just now realized why I got sick. Ran out of apples over the weekend.

Don’t suppose I can eat 4 of ‘em right now and immediately empty my swollen head, huh?

What’s in a Name?

I would be curious to know what is the record number of Pro teams to change names, partially or in whole – or new teams to be added in place of disbanded ones – in a single year.

If You’re Gonna Lose

Lose Big.

With a day off from work nursing my instant-cold, and also in keeping with my reduced work load and cycling activities, I spent the afternoon reading up on all the cycling news I have been ignoring for the past 3 to 4 months. Oh, I have plenty of other things I should be doing, but I’ve been pushing pretty hard on all fronts for quite a while and a break was in order. Until I get back from Iowa, things can wait.

In scanning through the last month worth of Cycling News reports, it seems lots of things have occurred, yet nothing is really all that different. Team rosters announced, or new teams announced. UCI and ASO fighting. So and so will ride this and aim to win that or defend something or other.

White Lines

No, I’m not referring to kicking my coke habit. I was driving home from ‘work’ (we’ll debate that more in a moment) and had to stop at the new traffic light at 25a and the northbound I-75 entrance/exit ramps. BTW… the particular 25a exit I mean is the one between Piqua and Troy (since there are actually 4 of them).

The lights went up a couple months ago, but today was the first time I a) drove through them when they weren’t flashing and b) actually had to stop.

Not-So-Early Bird

Got a reminder today that I needed to take care of some spring event registrations. So TOSRV is now taken care of. My COP membership netted me a $10 discount.

This was just as quickly reversed when I realized that the Calvin’s form I printed out 2 weeks ago was still laying around. The Early Bird deadline was Jan. 15, and I now have to add $10 to the fee.

Wormholes Cause Colds?

Unbelievable. I ride home from work, feeling great.

I make dinner and eat dinner.

Barely an hour after getting home, I’m sniffling and sneezing and my throat is raw, as if I was 2 days into a bad cold.

That has to be a record for cold symptoms.

Wormhole Commute

Today was fairly mild and it was weird wearing something other than my heaviest gear. There was a strong S headwind on the way in, and fortunately it was going to stick around to enjoy on the way home.

What I didn’t expect was the rain that came through. There was a little bit ‘o green on the edge of the radar early in the day, but I mostly ignored it.

Happy Anniversary to Me

I guess I should mention that this past Thursday marked my 3rd Anniversary at OneCall Now.

This is fairly significant. I’ve never lasted that long at a job before.

Well, other than kinda sorta owning the bakery. Jan. 1 was our 10th anniversary at that little experiment. But that’s more Cindy’s doing than mine. I would have collapsed under the weight of that long ago.
