Those Who Can’t… Do Video
Remember me mentioning Canton Ave. in Pittsburgh… a .1 mile climb that is 37% and cobbled at the top?

Today’s ride finished out the month of May and what a month it has been. Quite a few milestones and accomplishments.

*Woke up this morning to surprisingly bright and sunny skies outside my window, and a strong breeze blowing through what few were still open. I had been expecting it to still be raining but that system was rolling past at 60 mph, so I guess it had other places to be.
I had read Craig’s blog saying he was thinking of doing the south part of the Legbreaker route. I called, expecting he would already be out there. “You riding Legbreaker?” “Later in the afternoon.”
Sella: Awesome! ? Hey Ricco… who got the last laugh?
Simoni: Almost awesome but awesome anyway!
Rodriguez: Thanks! ? that’s what having a little CLASS, like Contador, gets you.
Contador: AWESOME!
Ricco: Zero Class = Zero Help (too bad he gets the white)
Colom: Awesome teammate of the day!
Van den Broeck and Pozzovivo: Ouch! bummer
Di Luca: bummer… sorta. Glad to see him out of contention, but didn’t want to see him drop that far. But gee… anybody, besides him, that didn’t see it coming? I said it two weeks ago… too many matches burned. “Matches? We don’t need no steenking matches!”
Menchov: training for the Tour? Yeah, sure, but… NOT! Matches?
Leipheimer: training for the Tour? Definitely… just in case
Kloden: serious bummer!
28k to go… good luck Alberto!
Got on the scale today after the ride and was surprised to see… 153.5. That’s a new low, and kinda surprising given the fact I ate about six dinners on Thursday night. Always seems to work out that way. I never use those post-ride weights as an actual, but it confirms I’m still going slowly in the right direction.
After Monday’s Adventure, Wednesday’s Ramble and Thursday’s intense, drama-filled, mano a mano, super-commuter throwdown, I was lookin’ for a lighter day for my Friday.
Didn’t get it to start out, though. Southwest wind was blowin’ and there was nothing light about it, even though I kept the pace as slow as possible.
Today was a spectacularly nice day, with sunny skies and light to non-existent winds. I had wanted to ride a bit extra on the path to take the long way in to work, but as usually happens, I didn’t leave the house soon enough.
After work though, I headed south instead of north and hopped on the path off of Dye Mill. There had been somebody on a bike in front of me on 25-a and since they made the turn down the southern spur, I followed. I neared them a little bit at a time, noticing first it was somebody on a soft ride. I wasn’ trying to catch, and in fact was trying not to. But whoever it was kept slowing down, I assume they were enjoying a casual stroll as much as I was. Just before the end of the trail I went around so I could make a u-turn and head back.
Seems early November is becoming the primo time for vacations for Cindy and I.
Last year it was our Carribbean Cruise. This year it’s a trip down to Panama City Beach for Ironman Florida. To watch of course, not to compete. Swim 2.4 miles? No problem. Ride 112 miles? Definitely no problem. Run a marathon?
You gotta be kidding. I could probably walk a marathon, though…
Small group for the Ramble today, with folks missing for various reasons: illness, travel, other rides, etc.
Got out to Tipp Park and found Craig and Ron and then Rick showed up BEFORE 6! Wow.
Two weeks ago as I was riding to work I noticed there was a Jeep for sale on Troy-Piqua road. One o’ them Wrangler types with the oversized tires for off-roadin’.
Last week there was another one for sale just a few houses down.
Heard somebody asked what I was “on” after I left Kiser to ride back home from Diesel’s Adventure on Monday.
Now, while I am flattered that I have made an impression lately that would lead to such a question, albeit a funny one, I am also a little touchy about it.
Whew… what a day. I can’t remember the last time a century left me so exhausted. Probably the second day of TOSRV three years ago, which was the first time I did it (not as a teen).
Even the challenge rides we’ve done that have 10,000 feet of climbing haven’t burned me up so thoroughly. Calvin’s was a lot harder mentally, but not physically.
