Against my better judgement, I went out to Process for the Monday ride. My ride into work was quick and felt good, but that was entirely due to a tailwind and had nothing to do with me. I was feeling pretty wrecked after Sunday’s adventure. Very wrecked actually.
I wasn’t sure who would be out there, but decided to go anyway. Craig was off to the Rush show, the forecast had tricked a couple others into riding earlier in the day. I figured I’d go a while and decide whether to finish it out or maybe cut it short and head home on light miles. More tailwind got me out fast, and I found a mini-van with an OU sticker on the back, so at least Willis was there. Cool.

aka: The Who’s Idea Was This? Century
Sometimes I think I should stop reading email after noon on Fridays. Better yet… I should stop sending emails… even sooner than Friday.
Because bad things tend to happen. Well.. good things, actually, since every ride is a good ride. Maybe bad ideas is a better description. Bad ideas happen. Yep.

Today’s the first day we’ve got a complete weather forecast through the end of Rainstorm/Rain, and it looks like things are gonna get interesting.

Rare day today, as I actually had the Focus out at Process. The plan was altered a bit since I found a way to optimize my driving. Not only did I want to go out after the ride and catch Craig’s show with Funky G, but I also needed a stop at Performance Bike, also at/near the Greene. And I also have been needing to replace one of my lost keys for the Focus.
That resulted in the short record-fast commute I mentioned earlier, and also kept my Friday miles nice and light. A quick 3 mile ride back up to Ford to get the car and then out to Process for ‘only’ the Friday ride. The trip to Ford was hardly quick, in fact the opposite of the downhill run. I still had my trued up Zonda front wheel in the office, so I rode back up 25a carrying it to the car. I’ve now ‘ridden’ 12 miles on that wheel without actually having it turn!

Just finished my fastest commute ever: 26.1 mph average. Sweeeeet.
A couple cars got in my way or it woulda been 26.2. If I wouldn’t have had a backpack on, it woulda been 26.3
Guess those rest days are paying off.

I coulda swore that just yesterday I was bitching about having to wait another month for Rainstorm. Now it’s only a week away.
Well… Rainstorm is actually 10 days away, but the 4th holiday and other vacation/festivities are a short 7 days. Gotta be packed and have the car loaded up next Thursday. Friday morning we head out for Indiana Week. Kinda like my own Stage Race, but without racing.

Had a little bit ‘o fun today, playin’ around in the heat and humidity. I started out from the house late, and figured there was no way to get to the office without drippin’ so I didn’t try. Had a hard head wind blowin’ at me and that made it even more fun. Good thing I’ve got cleanin’ supplies.

Read an interesting article on the New York Times from last week. Americans are driving fewer miles for the first time since the early 90s. And not just a little bit less. A lot less. And the purchase of SUVs, vans and pickups isn’t just declining… the market is drying up.

Tried out something new today. Well… new to me, but I’ve had the capability for two years.
My Verizon phone is a Motorola V325 that has internet capabilities including GPS (all phones have GPS actually). As long as I’ve had it, I’ve never really tried any of the features other than Accuweather.com and weatherbug. I’ve always found weatherbug to be um… buggy, on PCs, phones, everywhere. But I use AccuWeather frequently to check radar and storm warnings.
Cindy on the other hand, tried out a service called Bones in Motion (BIM), which is a GPS tracking application and companion site, bimactive.com. It records GPS data during any exercise (or driving I suppose) and then uploads the data to bimactive.com. She used it for a few months and really liked it, but her phone, an LG Chocolate, is “posessed” and the BIM app stopped working. It also cost $10 a month, plus connection charges/minutes.

Rode to work, rode home, nothing of interest happened. Guess that’s a good thing, even if it makes for boring reading.

Just found out I had the wrong date on my calendar for the summer solstice.
It was actually at 7:59 EDT on Friday, June 20.
Oops. Next year it is again on June 21.

Started out the day riding easy to work. After my two days of rest I thought maybe I’d have twitchy legs, but didn’t. The ride out to Process was fairly fast, only because of a nice tailwind. I definitely wasn’t feeling good. I stood up and hammered up the hill from 571 and although it was a reasonably solid looking effort (speed, cadence, etc.) it still didn’t feel right. A lot of times that’s just ‘lethargic’ legs after a couple days off. Craig’s description that I agreed with.
Today it was Craig, Willis, Tim, Bryan and me. Tim and Craig set the early pace headed east side by side, chatting away as the rest of us followed. I was feeling really crappy and by the time we got to the rise on Scarff I went off the back a bit. Lethargic indeed. Willis saw me struggling a bit and dropped back to pull me back on as we headed down New Carlisle Pike. I struggled a bit more as we climbed up from Dayton-Brandt and even more through the rollers. I was really tempted to turn down Elizabeth-Bethel and just go home. Not just the legs but my guts were givin’ me troubles even though lunch was 5 hours earlier.
