Since it was 55 on Wednesday and Thursday. That’s when. And since it’s been cold for more than three months now. I didn’t like it in January, but I was at least used to it. This week, with those brief tastes of spring, it’s very hard to Before I continue… some of those in my audience are prone to overdoing it with the cheese (you know who you are), so let me be clear about something. Just because I’m going to do a little whining (not wining) here, this should not be considered an excuse to go diving into the fridge for your favorite variety of cheese. What some added incentive to stay away?
Cheese is just moldy milk.

After a lot of resting, stretching, icing, etc. I’ve had a couple of good runs (and a really good ride). Monday evening I had just enough time to get home, change clothes and get out for a run around the path look before dark. I had driven, which made for four consecutive days off the bike, first time with that many days off since early March of 2008. Between that, no swimming in two weeks, and only a couple very easy runs, I have really backed off. But… I think it has really paid off. I’m feelin’ pretty good. Not great. Not 100%. But good.
Certainly better than I was this time last year.

In case you missed it, Wednesday was an extremely nice February day for riding. I got an IM from my sister at one point early in the afternoon. “54 degrees!” Not long after, I got one from Angie at work, “It’s 52 degrees!” I fired back a string of responses “I know!… let’s mutiny!.. jump ship!… bail!… “. The rest of the afternoon, every time the temp went up another degree, we’d fire a few more IMs back and forth. It didn’t quite happen that we got to sneak out, as we both were in various meetings and had other responsibilities.
But I did at least manage to get out the door a bit before 5pm and get some remaining daylight. Read more on Well-Met Helmet…

I mentioned that I hadn’t put anything in the log books for nearly two weeks. Well.. that’s because I’ve barely ridden. Once I did enter the missing rides, the month of February looked almost as empty. Excluding the 1st, which was Frostbite 5 (x2), I started out with 6 days in a row. Ever since then it was only 6 out of past 15 days and only 175 miles. I’m 110 miles behind this time last year. On the other hand, I’m 77 running miles ahead of last year (zero). Hmm… what’s the cycling miles equivalent of running miles? I always kinda figured running a marathon was about like riding a century, only harder. By that logic, I’ve ridden about 300 more miles, and would be over 1100 miles already.

Woke up to a bit of snow this morning and had built up a nice little layer out in the yard and particularly on the path. I snapped a couple photos from the sun (snow) room. A short while later the flakes started coming down again, and I was kinda bummed to be nursing a bum hip. I woke up feeling better than expected though, and the more I looked outside the more I wanted to go for a run.
So I did.

I mentioned that last Friday I got a bunch of deliveries at work, including four Opsal posters to go with the set of four Tour de France posters I brought in from home. Anticipating the arrival, I had bought frames to match, plus one to replace a water-damaged backing on the KOM poster, plus one more to frame a George Hincapie poster I also picked up while getting shoe covers and a visor for running in the bright sun. (geez I spend a lot of money on sports) So this past Wednesday I set about preparing to frame the posters and hang them up. I replaced the KOM one first. Then the Hincapie poster. And then I found out the other Opsal posters were not the same 18×24 size as the TdF. They were larger. 20×28 in fact. Not a big deal, I’ll simply go back to the store and swap the frames. Right?
Wrong.

I seem to have picked up a tendency to snort when I laugh. Weird. Hmm.. maybe it’s the ‘roids? Anybody know if snorting is a side affect of MethylPREDNISolone use? Heh.. I just made a joke there, if you interpret snorting as doing coke. News flash: ‘Roids lead to stronger drugs! Hey, maybe that’s what happened to Tom Boonen! I don’t recall ever having this “problem” before. Sure, occasionally. But a frequent occurrence?

Well it’s been an interesting few days. Let’s see if I can even remember any of it. I only put in a few remote hours Friday for work and still ended up with over 50 for the week. And that’s if I leave off the President’s Day “Holiday” I was supposed to have had.
I wonder… Hey Boss, can I get that one back now? I’ll take Christmas Eve. Thanks.

I’m not sure which of today’s events was better. Was it today’s Tour of California Stage, which I think I may now rename the Tour of the Levi Zone. Seriously.. it took quite a bit of effort to manage to watch the whole thing. The DVR dropped on me just before they turned off the PCH. Not sure why. I guess it went way longer than they scheduled or did Dish Network screw up? Don’t know. But the Premium membership I have from CyclingTV paid off . I logged in, loaded up the ‘as live’ and skipped right to the part where Dish had left me hanging. The price of the subscription was worth just this one viewing. Anything else this year is gravy. Oh, and Magnus Bäckstedt is doing commentary. Quite amusingly I might add.
20 minutes after the stage was over, my heart rate still hadn’t come down. So what could be better than Monday’s race?

Has anybody seen the latest Time Warner Cable commercial? Sure you have. They run constantly. Even if you watch nearly all of your television via DVR, as I do, and skip commercials, you’ve probably caught it at least a thousand times. And even if you don’t pay attention to the commercials on the rare occasions they are on, your ears are probably tuning in and hearing the background music. And it probably sounds familiar.
At least… it’s familiar if you have done one of the handful of Spinervals videos that uses the exact same music!
