King Wheelsucker

On Saturday I put out a general invite for a Sunday ride. Roughly 3 hour ride, conversational pace, no speed agenda, anybody welcome (BTW… if you are reading this, have ridden with me at all, and didn’t get an invite, it wasn’t a snub – I don’t have your email. Or I have it, but can’t figure out who it’s attached too (email addy is not same as name). Please don’t be offended, and email me at “forums dot 1 at dobovedo dot com” or my “real” email if you have it.

Anyway.. I got three takers and one of them brought a fourth, making a good group of five.

Double Dose o’ Healin’

On Friday I had not one, but two therapy sessions. I followed up PT in the morning with a massage in the evening. It’s a day later, and I’m sore as hell from the latter. I hope in a good way. At least the two weren’t concentrating on the same area. PT for legs ‘n lower body, but the massage was for upper back, shoulders neck.

I’m not sure which is breakin’ me faster. My training or my job. Lately it seems to be a tie.

Double Dose o’ Hurtin’

What’s the best way to erase the benefits of a day of physical and massage therapy? Do a duathlon first thing the next morning. The plan for Saturday was to dial back the distance of the long run, but put a good, hard ride in front of it.

Essentially – the classic triathlon bike/run training brick.

Overload?

Tell me if this sounds like an overly aggressive day of training: 10 mile casual ride to work. 10 mile casual ride home. 3 mile path run. 1600 meter swim.

Please remember this is me we’re talking about.. in case you aren’t a runner or swimmer (or a cyclist for that matter).

Path Update: Two More Miles

Ahhh, Turkey Day, I remember it well. That was the day that the path section from the Piqua Power Plant to Peterson Rd. was supposed to be open.

Fast forward a half year, and the trail is finally paved and ready to be dedicated.

Hillmaster/Rainmaster

As I say, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again…

Now It’s Deer

Turns out deer are a bit faster than chipmunks. Again… I didn’t start it. I was riding up the driveway to Aileron and a deer came out of the woods along the edge of the property. Instead of crossing the road, he (she) started running up alongside me (albeit a bit further away). I didn’t really sprint the deer (and quite honestly.. I didn’t sprint the chipmunk either).

It was another one of those random situations that would have been amusing on video.

10 Miles: The Easy[er] Way

There have been a lot of good days and a lot of bad days, on my journey towards Ironman so far. Sunday was one of the good days. I can say definitively that I am in better running shape than I was back in February. I got through a ten mile run, and although I did it in a different way, than I did the first time, this time I did it with no pain.

No sour pain that is.

When Chipmunks Attack

Before I did the 100 Laps of Nowhere, I went out for a 34 mile spin on my Riverside Ride loop. I sent out a late invite and didn’t get any takers, so it was a solo ride. That didn’t stop me from winning a sprint, however. The sprint was against a chipmunk. And I totally kicked his ass.

He started it.

100 Laps of Nowhere

As I mentioned awhile back, I signed up for the Fat Cyclist’s 100 Miles of Nowhere ride. I can’t describe the ride any better than what Fatty did with his own event description:

What The 100 Miles of Nowhere Is

Two Short / Ten To Go

I think I must be getting better at this running thing. Today I went out for two miles and not only did it seem short, it seemed so short it wasn’t worth bothering with. The four I did on Wednesday seems to be my new idea of what a short run should be. Interesting, since I haven’t upped my idea of what a long run can – and should – be. Looks like this Sunday I’ll be finding out. I’m gonna see if I can get to 10 (using the soon-to-be-world-renowned 721 Training Systems method, of course). Coach K may join me so I’ll have some company. Her scheduled run for the weekend is 11, so I can walk off the last mile. A double path loop up here is 13, but we can lop off a couple pieces here and there and shorten it up. The advantage is coming past the house halfway for beverages and calories.
