Apparently I Am Most Difficult

While I would probably get a lot of agreement about being most difficult, I am referring specifically to a trail out at Bent Creek that was labeled “Most Difficult”. Not only was I was able to successfully descend, without falling on my head or breaking any important parts of me or my bike, but I was also able to ascend it too.

Well… almost.

Tuesdays

I’m going from bad to worse on my journalizing. Have now slipped to three weeks without posting anything about a ride. Which is kinda silly, because I’ve been doing some great riding lately. And by great I am referring to the great time I am having while riding; not necessarily to the quality of said riding from a performance point of view.

But before I get to the great riding, I’ll write about Tuesday.

Sendin’ Out An SOS

Quite often the subject of Ironman triathlons comes up when I am in the room. Why does this happen? Well.. I suppose it’s because I wear a variety of different Ironman “finisher” shirts, and I wear them quite often. Am I bragging or trying to impress people? Well… to be honest… yes. To some degree. But there’s another more important reason. It’s really cool to meet other people that have done one. Case in point: a week ago I was out at LEAF, the Lake Eden Arts Festival, which is a huge annual musical fun-fest here in Asheville. Without going into a tangent about LEAF, though; while I was waiting for a band to start playing in one of the venues on Saturday night, a guy walked past me with a tote bag over his back. It said… Ironman St. George 2010. I was wearing one of my tech shirts that said Ironman Florida 2009.

We became fast friends.

Hey Legs.. HTFU

On the day after Tour de Cashiers I should have taken a rest day. And I almost did. But it was sunny out. And warm. And just too nice a day to stay inside. So I debated what to do about it. It was still very windy and I didn’t particularly feel like doing another road ride. I definitely did not want this to be my return to running after a month (plus) off since the Dupont 12k.

So I told my aching legs to HTFU, ’cause we’re going to Tsali!

Tour de Cashiers

On Saturday I drove to the little mountain town of Cashiers, NC, about 30 miles SE of Sylva, to do a local century. This is a smaller ride, not one that is well known regionally or nationwide like some of the more prominent “challenge rides”. Nevertheless, it is billed as a tough ride and features more than 10,000 feet of climbing including three significant mountains. Not long after I crested the top of the third big climb and still had 15 miles of rolling terrain I composed a short, but to-the-point blog entry to describe the route.

“Fuck this fucking ride”.
