TdF: Cooler Heads
Fortunately for me, I have very good friends who, while just as passionate, are much calmer when it comes to reacting to negative news. Through a series of emails I have realized that making stupid declarations serves nothing.
I said I wouldn’t watch the Tour, that it was over as far as I was concerned.
That was crap. I still want to see Rasmussen and Contador go mono-e-mono in the Alps tomorrow. I still want to see if Levi can hold of the (now only 2) other guys.
I still want to see Discovery put two guys on the podium, take the Yellow, the White, the Team Classification, and maybe even the Polka Dot(?).
Doesn’t mean I’m not still completely pissed off and saddened about this whole Vino/Astana thing.
What was pointed out to me is that turning off the Tour is just as silly as pretending that doping doesn’t exist or doesn’t matter. Either approach is burying one’s head in the sand.
It also means that I’ll have to skip some of the doping related commentary during the pre-race and mile by mile commentary. I’ll have to endure yet more articles about doping. I’ll have to sift through the quotes for race opinions, not doping opinions.
I’ll have to look for some sign on the horizon that things are getting better and that the cheaters will be caught and removed.
I’ll have to try to believe that not everyone is guilty.
But I’m still gonna rant and rave and throw fits when it’s needed. If I care about something, you can be quite certain that I’ll voice my anger when it is threatened or tarnished or otherwise harmed.

Now that’s the spirit man!!

July 25th, 2007 at 3:32 pmOf course they aren’t Frank. If they were, the doping wouldn’t show up in their blood - they wouldn’t bleed! LOL
But you are missing my point.
I get upset about the doping crap because it interferes with my entertainment and the enjoyment of the sport. Guess I’m just a selfish prick. ;-)
Some people actually prefer the scandal and get all excited about it… they somehow think it’s more interesting.
I am not one of those people.
And judging by the fact that the sport keeps growing and the crowds keep getting larger. I’d say I am in the minority.
For me, today’s stage was half as fun as it would have been because there was a big freakin’ cloud hanging over it.
Kudos to Phil, Paul and Vs. for keeping it to a minimum, though.
Oh.. and “they’re not ‘gods’ for ‘christ’ sake”… that’s funny!
